Kent wildlife control tip of the month:
Groundhog Trapping: How To Trap a Groundhog
Trapping groundhogs can prove to be a bit tricky in some countries since they have regulations about
relocating pests. There are two ways to trap a groundhog: lethal and nonlethal. If one goes for a lethal
solution, you need to solve the problem of the carcass. And the nonlethal Kent pest control solution brings a problem of
relocation of the animal. Nevertheless, when all other solutions prove to be ineffective, trapping them
is the only way. If you want to make a Kent animal control trap for a groundhog, you must make sure that you do not leave your
scent on the trap. If they sense your smell, they will not come near the trap. Another way to do that is to
wash the trap or roll it in dirt.
The Kent wildlife removal trap is basically a box which shuts when a groundhog enters it. There are two types of traps used for catching
live groundhogs: one door and two door trap. Two-door trap has the advantage of double entrance; hence double the chance
to catch one. Groundhogs like fruits and vegetables, so cantaloupe, sweet corn, vanilla extract or strawberries can do the
trick. There is also a thing called “woodchuck lure”. Groundhogs love this smell and will definitely follow the scent all
the way into the trap. When you put bait into the Kent animal trapping trap, it has to be placed on the most rear end so that the groundhog
enters the trap all the way. The trap is to be placed in front of the burrow and has to be camouflaged with dirt, sticks
and leaves. When the animal is caught, it should be approached with caution, wearing gloves because they will bite and fight.
The area where you release the animal should be attractive to it and should be at least 5 miles from the place where you
caught it. Open the cage carefully because they could be aggressive. Poisoning them can be a bit tricky and is definitely
not humane since they die slowly and in a lot of pain. Also, toxins used for that are also toxic to humans and other animals,
so it is not the safest method of getting rid of them. Lethal Kent exterminator traps like body grip traps are very dangerous to use and one should
consult an expert when using them. They are not practical since they can kill anything that comes into them and they are also illegal
in some states.
